Bio - Remediation with Fulvic Acid

FULVIC Acid definition: Fulvic is an extremely complex bioactive yellow organic substance, the ultimate aerobic decomposition product of all living matter, with unusual and exceptional qualities and abilities to change, alter, molecularly combine with, or act upon virtually all other organic and inorganic matter. Having the characteristics of fusion at the molecular level.

Fulvic ~word origin: [ful < Old English < full] full of, characterized by, having the qualities of, having the ability or tendency to, apt to [vic < Old French < vicaire < change] alteration, to bend, to change. Also [fulvus ] deep yellow, reddish yellow, golden, or tawny color.

At last... from Mother Nature, her most precious and best kept secret! Fulvic acid (fulvates) - called the "missing link" to optimum health and nutrition by leading scientists throughout the world. A health miracle so wonderful that medical studies show that it has the ability to significantly change your life for the better. So safe, powerful and effective that medical doctors around the world have used it for thousands of years with amazing results. Scientists have discovered a missing link in our food chain, and can see that rapidly increasing degenerative diseases worldwide may be directly related to absence of this substance in the human diet. Now experts know that more than vitamins and minerals are required for health, this third nutritional element is equally important. This breakthrough discovery is supported by little-known and even secret medical research coming from top institutions around the world; medical schools, hospitals, clinics, and pharmaceutical labs.

Taking fulvic acid - preferably in liquid/organic form has 1,000's of health benefits:

Fulvic Acid is the electrolyte that enables our cells to absorb nutrients and is a multi-directional antioxidant that cleanses the entire surface of the Earth of pollution, pesticides, and toxins of all kinds.

Yet fulvic acid is more than just an enzyme, it is in essence the "milk" from Mother Nature... meant for giving life, energy, health, immunity, and renewal to the entire Earth, humans, plants, animals, and living organisms. Fulvates are seriously depleted from agricultural soils, crops, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meats, and foods of all kinds, COMPLETELY lacking in the modern human diet.

" World soil samples were 75% depleted of vitamins and minerals. " -- UNICEF 1992

"We can do better"

Dr. William R. Jackson, Ph.D., President

Dr. William R. Jackson was born and raised in a farm community near Boise, Idaho. He is an author, educator, researcher, and entrepreneur with a wide range of professional and personal interests. Dr. Jackson holds a Ph.D. from the University of Denver and continues to devote time to both formal and self-directed educational pursuits, including completion of postdoctoral study at the Stanford University Advanced Management College. He has traveled through Canada, Europe, China and Mexico to research agriculture, animal, human health, and environmental issues and their possible solutions. Dr. Jackson has been involved in hazardous and toxic substance reduction research at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, and recently, reformulated all products to insure their compliance with organic and safe-product requirements. Dr. Jackson has authored several curriculum textbooks, as well as other publications and professional presentations.

Among his works are:

fulvic

Dr. Jackson was awarded FIRST PLACE in the Non-Fiction Book Category of the 1994 National Self Publishing Awards by Writer's Digest for his book:

Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance: Organic Soil Conditioning

This text is a thorough reference book that summarizes over nine years of Dr. Jackson's concentrated research and writing interests. Written for a diverse audience, the text is useful for gardeners, farmers, ranchers, agricultural researchers, everyone interested in safe, sane and productive growing, and those interested in nature's natural, biochemical remediation processes. Dr. Jackson advocates a wider use of organic soil conditioners to improve fertility and supports this position by detailed discussions of scientific evidence. Chapter topics include humification, Humic and Fulvic phenomenon, water, nature's nitrogen cycle, organo-clays, growth regulator stimulants, and toxic waste remediation. The textbook contains a bibliography with over 1,500 entries, a glossary defining over 400 words, and a detailed index. The review published by the Bulletin of the International Society of Soil Science describes Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance: Organic Soil Conditioning, in a positive, supportive tone.

During 1995 Dr. Jackson wrote the following three booklet publications:

Dr. Jackson turned to environmental issues in his third major book:

Environmental Care & Share, Working Model Constructs Which Suggest: "We can do better," published in January 1995. In this book Dr. Jackson reviews the individuals, institutions, and entities, affecting the environment of the United States, and the world, and the roles they play. This review describes government regulations and regulatory bodies, corporations, including insurance companies, unions, and individuals in various positions of influence. Environmental Care and Share contains California Proposition 65, EPA, and OSHA tables which list chemicals known to be toxic, hazardous, carcinogenic, and apparent birth-defect precursors. In his pleasantly pragmatic manner, he explains how the health and safety of earth's inhabitants can be improved by describing products which are safe alternatives to the chemicals listed as toxic, hazardous, carcinogenic, and apparent birth-defect precursors. Dr. Jackson challenges readers to exercise their personal influence by using products that are safe to humans, animals and the environment.

An article Dr. Jackson researched and co-authored, "Some Functions of Enzymes," was published in the August 1997 POULTRY DIGEST. ACRES USA published an interview with Dr. Jackson by Charles Walters title, "Restoring Life to the Soil," in November 1997, and his article, "Protecting Your Soil's Micro-organisms," in December 1997. In 2002, Dr. Jackson researched and co-presented "From Humic Substances in Academia To The Needs Of International Commerce," to the 20th conference of the International Humic Substance Society. In October 2002, Dr. Jackson's article, "Reduction of Hazardous Levels of Agricultural Nitrogen in Water and Soil," was published in the Journal of Medical Hypothesis. To help provide alternatives to toxic and hazardous chemical products, Dr. Jackson has formulated numerous safe products for agriculture (including livestock), industry and human use. Among these products are seven all natural, animal feed and water additive products which passed the FDA & AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) requirements in 1997 and which were upgraded and re-labeled under "The Answer®" brand line of products in 2003. Also in The Answer® line of products are: The Cleaner Answer® (originally labeled Environmental Care & Share, Dispersant/Degreaser,) – a multiple benefit substitute solvent which has been thoroughly tested with positive results as a safe alternative cleaner for government, military, industry, farm and home use; and, The Bio-N-Liven Answer® (originally labeled EC&S Bio-Stimulant) – a multi-enzyme based product formulated to work in conjunction with nature for the rapid stimulation of organic, microbial action in the remediation of waste, composting and odor control. Both products received USDA approval in 1994.

Since 1999, Dr. Jackson has once again been turning his attentions toward human health issues and formulated as Osteo-Min-Zyme and Vita-Min-Zyme – multi-enzyme based supplements to aid in digestion as well as provide balanced, organic vitamins, trace minerals and electrolytes. Both products are formulated to help the body maintain strength, balance and wellness.

Dr. Jackson teamed up with Hoshizaki of Japan to produce the custom designed WRJ-Ag-ROX-02 Electrolyzed Oxidizing Water equipment to provide a way to clean, disinfect and sterilize without hazardous or toxic chemicals. Approved by the USDA, EPA and FDA, and researched by Universities in both the U.S. and Japan, WRJ-Ag-ROX-02 Electrolyzed Oxidizing water is versatile, effective, and bottom-line friendly. Dr. Jackson's tireless enthusiasm and enduring dedication to improving the lives of Earth's inhabitants is compelling and sure to inspire anyone who meets him, hears his presentations, or reads material he has written.

"If the Creator felt that it was necessary to design something to solve multiple problems, and if this Creator wanted to show us the magic and miracle of pulling 'rabbits from a hat,' then an outstanding job was done with the design of Fulvic acid." -- Dr. William R. Jackson, President of Environmental Care & Share

Dr. Jackson was awarded First Place in the Non-Fiction Book category of the 1994 National Self-Publishing Awards by Writer's Digest for his book, Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance, Organic Soil Conditioning. Understanding the power of Fulvic acid(s) prompted leading University of Boston research scientist, Dr. Clyde Sandgrin, to say,

"If I had to choose between Fulvic acid(s) and electricity, electricity would have to go." -- Dr. William R. Jackson, President of Environmental Care & Share

Other scientists claim that there would be no life on planet Earth without Fulvic acid(s).

Father of Organic Science

Environmental Care & Share, Dr. William Jackson, Ph.D.

Scientist and president of Environmental Care & Share, Dr. William Jackson, Ph.D, has pioneered innovation in the organic fertilizer industry and is often referred to as "the father of organic science."  His book Organic Soil Conditioning is often called "the bible of organic farming."

Dr. Jackson's interest in healthy soil and safe products began as a child raised in a small farm community of Idaho where he had watched his Grandfather's two horses plow a field that would now require a huge tractor.  Over the past 50 years Dr. Jackson witnessed, first hand, the impact of major agricultural use of inorganic chemical salt fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, hormones and antibiotics on human and environmental health.

The negative impact of chemical fertilizers inspired Dr. Jackson to innovate organic methods that could help renew the soil, improve crop production, and help remove harmful chemicals from the human food chain.  The environments of birds, animals, and humans needed some care and there were problems that needed some answers.

Dr. Jackson has authored several curriculum textbooks, as well as other publications and professional presentations.  Two of Dr. Jackson's books:

1.  Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance: ORGANIC SOIL CONDITIONING

2.   ENVIRONMENTAL CARE & SHARE

These two books set the stage for the development of products that give people safe alternatives to the toxic and hazardous chemicals widely used today.

" In the early 1990's Doctor William Jackson had asked us to keep this knowledge about his proven solution confidential for his life had been threatened by top officials of Westinghouse Corp.. I am making the decision in the summer of 2013 to share this knowledge here and now in the aftermath of Fukushima because the global family is not yet finished with the worst man made nuclear disaster in the history of the world, not including the sinking of the Atlantean Continent off the coast of Florida." -- Amarushka

"Doctor Bill Jackson told us that he had been invited to a Westinghouse Corp. facility in the USA Midwest to test his Fulvic Acid based Formula on 200 barrels of liquid nuclear waste being stored there until there was a designated burial site for the drums. Which is usually down near Carlesbed Caverns of southern New Mexico. Bill applied his formula and custom designed filter system to each drum of liquid nuclear waste and closed the lid on each one. Westinghouse personal and higher ups showed great support and interest as he did all 200 of them. He said now they must sit for several weeks and upon his return will be tested to see if they are totally restored to clear water." -- Amarushka

"Doctor Jackson returned but no one was at the yard gate to let him in and he had to flag someone down inside to go get a higher up to open up and let him in to test his 200 drums of liquid nuclear waste with his Fulvic Humic formula in it. Finally some one showed up to let him in and do a test. Test proved 100% pure water in the drum that had once been full of the deadly nuclear waste cocktail. So he did a few more. All were now pure water. More higher ups came out to him and announced that he needs to get off the property immediately if he wants to live. And to never come back and to never speak of this incident with Westinghouse nuclear waste storage division. Bill told us he was very frightened by this turn around position that the higher ups took with him and the solution so desperately needed. Bill went home and decided to only focus on agricultural aspects of his discovery." -- Amarushka

On 2 September, 2009, Mr. Ralph R. Peterson passed away after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Peterson joined CH2M HILL in 1965 as its 148th employee. From 1991 through 2008 he served as the firm's chief executive officer. Mr. Peterson also served as CEO for the Coalition to Advance Sustainable Technology, and played an important role in President Clinton's National Environmental Technology Initiative. He served as a private sector delegate at international forums including the World Water Forum, China's National Sustainable Development Conference, and the Rio + 5 Summit. He was a member of the Engineering and Construction Governors of the World Economic Forum, World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Business Environment Leadership Council of the Pew Center for Global Climate Change, Secretary of Energy's National Petroleum Council and the Executive Committee of the Council on Competitiveness.

"I called Ralph Peterson back as he had requested of her on Sept. 11, 2001 at his office in Denver, Colorado and his secretary said that he was not interested and that Los Alamos was not interested because these companies like Westinghouse are on a long term contract with the government to bury the drums down in Carlsbad caverns and elsewhere for a very exclusive price per drum where as Jackson's cure and solution would cost pennies in comparison. Just after Amarushka hung up the telephone from this discouraging response from Ralph Peterson, C H 2 M Hill and Los Alamos Labs she turned on her TV and there on every channel was the 911 film footage being played. It had just happened. Look at the timing of this coincidence!" -- Amarushka

Treat Radiation Exposure in Humans

According to Dr. William R. Jackson, Fulvic acid annihilates radiation!

Thousands of scientific studies exist to prove it. Russian scientists used it to clean up the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster, including the soil, animals, and people exposed to the radiation. According to Dr. William R. Jackson, Fulvic acid annihilates radiation! Truly amazing stuff! When you Treat Radiation Exposure with Potassium Iodide it does not compare to the protection from Fulvic Acid. KI (potassium iodide) works by flooding the thyroid with non-radioactive Iodine which thereby prevents the uptake of the radioactive Iodine molecules. Potassium Iodide is great for protecting the thyroid from radioactive exposure BUT we are 1 human with much more to worry about than just one organ. People over 40 need to be careful when taking KI. Potassium Iodine also known as KI is NOT recommended as treatment for radiation exposure at this distance from the source. In fact, self-treatment with KI can be hazardous especially to pregnant or lactating women or individuals with kidney disease.

To properly treat radiation exposure with Fulvic acid you need to have organic Fulvic acid. Fulvates not only contain rare-earth mineral elements in organic form, Fulvic acids are enzymes and have a life-like functional quality. Being "organic" means the minerals are not "dead" mineral elements, but actually powerful bio-active life-like enzymes made up from very complex combinations of powerful phytochemicals. Research shows that these complex substances have amazing fountain-of-youth-like health properties. Historical medical use is ongoing and dates back hundreds and even thousands of years in remote regions of the Himalayas, China, and Russia, where people today still have the longest recorded life-spans.

Fulvic acid is the World's most complex enzyme, and enzymes are described by scientists to be like living entities, having functioned and life-like qualities." -- Dr. William Jackson

Microbial Bio - Remediation

Microbes that will Eat Radioactive Materials

Microbes

Following Excerts By: Curtis Cost, April 19, 2011

The damaged reactors at Fukushima are pouring out radioactive material over Japan and around the world, but the solution may be tiny microbes that actually eat uranium and plutonium. These microbes are called extremophiles and they have been known about since 1956. They can withstand radiation 15 times what would kill humans and they actually seek out and eat uranium and plutonium transforming them into far less dangerous substances. These microbes actually live and thrive in environments that would kill almost anything else. They can grow on nuclear rods, in nuclear waste, in toxic waste, and in boiling water.

A variety of species of extremophiles have been discovered such as Kineococcus, Geobacter sulfurreducens and Geobacter metallireducens. These microbes not only eat radioactive material, but they actively seek them out like a predator seeking out its prey. The U.S. Department of Energy and other government and private entities have conducted experiments using these microbes to help clean up the billions of tons of nuclear waste sites around America. The tests have proven very successful. For example the Rifle Mill in Western Colorado was used to mine uranium and was closed in 1972. The ground water in the area was contaminated with extremely high levels of uranium. This was the result:

"Researchers funded by the U.S. Department of Energy have used the microbe to reduce uranium in the water at Rifle Mill by over 70 percent and further research this past summer reduced uranium in water at the site by 90 percent." -- Author Unknown

"Mother Nature Finds a Way "

Thanks to a research time involving Princeton, Indiana University, and others, that isn't just a sappy Disney quote - it's an incredible fact.  They found extremophiles bacteria buried over two miles into solid rock, where the life-giving energy of the sun never reaches - the energy every other species on Earth depends on.  Instead they found their own power source - radiation!

Another study found that extremophiles also can transform plutonium in such a way that it is easier to remove from solution.

"In this study we investigated the effect of two model metal-reducing bacteria, Geobacter sulfurreducens and Shewanella oneidensis, on the redox speciation of Pu. Our results show that in all cases, the presence of bacterial cells enhanced removal of Pu from solution." -- Author Unknown

Bacteria Genomes - GEOBACTER SULFURREDUCENS

Impact of the Fe(III)-reducing bacteria Geobacter sulfurreducens and Shewanella oneidensis on the speciation of plutonium. Many other studies have been done with positive results. The U.S. Department of Energy speculates that the cost to clean up the nuclear waste sites around America to be at $260 billion, but they also note that these microbes could do the job at a fraction of the cost. Researchers have found that the growth of extremophiles can be encouraged with the use of vinegar among other things. Fortunately, extremophiles are harmless to humans. Some genetically modified versions are more problematic because of the many unknowns about what they will do once released into the environment. One of these genetic modifications have been labeled "Super Conan".

The situation in Japan keeps getting worse and the best case scenarios would have Fukushima continuing to shoot radioactive material into the atmosphere for months, whereas the worse case scenarios predict that this could go on for years! Already the water in Tokyo has been declared unsafe to drink. Water samples in the U.S. have detected radiation levels in the water well above the federal government's safety limits. It is also showing up in the milk supply which threatens all dairy products. The longer this situation drags on, the more people in Japan and around the world will be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. These microbes could be a part of the solution in resolving this problem.

Roughly 50 years of research have shown that these microbes are effective in helping to clean up radioactive material. Robots could be used to carry these microbes into position. Of course there are logistics involved such as how much of these microbes are readily available, how fast they can be grown, how much is needed, how much they can accomplish in a given period of time and so forth, all of which can be addressed. The sad fact is this option is not even being considered; at least it is not being discussed in the mainstream media by government and industry officials. The question is why? The data is out there, so why is this option not being considered as part of an overall plan to deal with this crisis. These tiny microbes might very well be the solution that helps save Japan and much of the world from a radioactive nightmare.

Stanford and Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Researchers at Stanford and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are using bacteria to reduce uranium to safe levels at sites such as this one in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where four unlined settling pits were built in 1951. Uranium-bearing wastes were piped in until 1983 and seeped into soils and groundwater. The site is now a parking lot.

Bio-Remediation was used in the 1980s to clean up toxic organics, mainly spills of fuels and solvents. Bacteria basically ate the fuels—chomping down long-chain hydrocarbons—or they "breathed" the solvents and created nontoxic forms.

"Microorganisms also 'breathe' metals like uranium, converting it into a form that is immobile because it does not appreciably dissolve in water. After microbes convert the uranium, it's just sitting there, like a rock, In future studies, we hope to see how stable we can make that 'rock.' Ideally, it will remain in that form for thousands of years." -- Nyman Criddle

While the Cold War ended decades ago, its legacy will live for centuries in toxic waste. In remote corners of the country from Tennessee to the Pacific Northwest, dozens of federal laboratories struggle to clean up contaminants left from 50 years of weapons programs. New results show a promising technique for cleaning up uranium from some of the most severely contaminated areas by harnessing the powers of microbes already in the soil.

"Toxic uranium is often found in groundwater at places where uranium was either mined or enriched to make weapons. This uranium-contaminated water can migrate into surface waters, where it becomes a threat to organisms and water." -- Craig Criddle, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford.

The Energy Department has a much bigger mess at the Hanford site, a World War II weapons plant where leaking tanks have contaminated 80 square miles of groundwater with radiation and toxic chemicals.

Because the new orange bug made its home in nuclear wastes, no one can argue that putting it back there would be unnatural, say the scientists here. They believe they can grow Kineococcus in petri dishes and then inject it into tanks and underground plumes of leaking wastes.

But Dr. Bagwell thinks it will take five more years of peering into the bug's genes before attempting such experiments. Twenty percent of the microbe's genetic structure, he says, involves "unknown functions."

"We're at a point where we could do some field trials but sponsors at the Energy Department doubt the public is ready for the release of this laboratory-engineered bug into the environment. It might eat nuclear wastes, but they worry about what else might it do." -- Michael J. Daly

Rather than confront such touchy matters, the department is confident it can find Super Conan's equivalent in nature, says Ari Patrinos, the department's director of biological and environmental research. He estimates that fewer than 1% of the Earth's bacteria forms have been identified:

"There are plenty out there for our needs. We just have to pick and choose."

classification
Current Classification of Life Chart

Scientists are working hard deciding how to place extremophiles in the taxonomy of life. They have found that extremophiles do not fit exactly in with bacteria or eucaryotes on the chart that is used today. In fact scientists believe that extremophiles have special characteristics that are forcing them to create a sixth kingdom. That kingdom will be Archaea. The chart below is a very rough draft of what the new kingdom will include. It is too early to make the entry for Archaea final because so many new extremophiles are still being discovered.

archaea2.jpg
Scientists Placement of Archaea on Classification Charts

Until 20 years ago scientists classified all living things as either a plant or animal. A third classification, Archaea, is being used to identify a third group of organisms that are very different from fungi, bacteria, and protists. Dr. Carl Woese and other scientists at the University of Illinois were studying how prokaryotes are alike. During their research, they discovered two very different groups of prokaryotes. The main difference is in the structure of the genes and proteins in the two types of prokaryotes.

Extremophiles have adapted to survival in extreme thermal, acidic, saline, sulfuric, and barometric environments. Scientists are discovering that the unusual make up of these microbes are helping to make advances in medicine and industry.

Extremophiles show characteristics that are partly like bacteria and partly like eukaryota. This has led scientists to begin to think that a sixth kingdom should be added to the taxonomy of life. This new kingdom is being called Archaea.

"The genome of this tiny microorganism may help us to address some of our most difficult cleanup problems and to generate power through biologically-based energy sources. Geobacter is an important part of Nature's toolbox for meeting environmental and energy challenges. This genome sequence and the additional research that it makes possible may lead to new strategies and biotechnologies for cleaning up groundwater at DOE and at industry sites." -- Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham

Fulvic and Humic for Detox of Radioactive Elements

According to Szaloy, radioactive elements react with Humic substances and require only a brief time until equilibrium is reached.

"Russian scientists are using the same principle for the treatment of radiation sickness. Sodium humate has been found to increase the lifespan of mongrel rats exposed to lethal doses of cobalt radiation8." -- Dr. Daryl See, M.D., Immunologist of UCLA Medical School

F.W. Pauli stated that the solubility, migration, and accumulation of uranium are influenced by Humic and Fulvic acids. The fuel discharged from the light water reactors is contaminated with substantial amounts of plutonium and uranium. These ions react with Humic compounds at a much more rapid rate than do copper, nickel, lead, or cadmium ions.

Pillai and Mathew agreed that it would not be unrealistic to presume that the geochemical behavior of plutonium and uranium is influenced by humic substances. They reported the presence of plutonium in purified organic material extracted from coastal sediments and indicated the possibility of the accumulation of plutonium on organic surfaces because the concentration of plutonium increased over time. As they confirmed that the organic matter solubilized the plutonium, they discovered that the addition of organic matter inhibited the hydrolysis and precipitation of the added plutonium. It was further reported that this scenario duplicates the action with uranium and other radioactive elements.

Rashid stated that nuclear reactor wastes contain unused uranium, the basic fuel, and long-lived fission product nuclides and actinides, including plutonium, strontium-90, zirconium-95, iodine-129, cesium-137 and cesium 135, all in abundance. Activated metals such as cobalt-60, iron-59, and manganese-54 also are present in reactor waste. He states that the basic reactions of these materials with humic substances are parallel to those of other transition and trace metals.

“Radioactive elements have an affinity for humic and Fulvic acids. They form organo-metal complexes of different adsorptive stability and solubility. Uranium and plutonium are influenced by humic substances as are other polluting metals, each being solubilized and absorbed, thereby annihilating that specific radioactivity.” -- Rashid
"Our intent is to provide you with the highest quality and best price when it comes to your health product requirements. We offer the purest quality of Humic and Fulvic concentrates available on the market. The nutrients and minerals in Humic substances are essential for optimum human health. The Humic substances are found in the tar sands region of Alberta, Canada and how they are extracted is paramount when it comes to purity, potency and efficacy. The extraction process keeps the integrity of the Humic substances in it’s raw and whole state. This means that nothing has been added or taken away. We are happy to supply our global family with the perfect super food, for these very challenging times we share." -- Rose Alchemy family

"It is leaking out from the basements, it is leaking out from the cracks all over the place" -- Mycle Schneider Nuclear consultant

A nuclear expert has told the BBC that he believes the current water leaks at Fukushima are much worse than the authorities have stated. Mycle Schneider is an independent consultant who has previously advised the French and German governments. He says water is leaking out all over the site and there are no accurate figures for radiation levels. Meanwhile the chairman of Japan's nuclear authority said that he feared there would be further leaks. The ongoing problems at the Fukushima plant increased in recent days when the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) admitted that around 300 tonnes of highly radioactive water had leaked from a storage tank on the site.

Moment of Crisis

"The scope of damage to the plants and to the surrounding area was far beyond what I expected and the scope of the challenges to the utility owner, the government of Japan, and to the people of the region are daunting. The precarious status of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear units and the risk presented by the enormous inventory of radioactive materials and spent fuel in the event of further earthquake threats should be of concern to all and a focus of greater international support and assistance. " -- Anthony Hall

The Japanese nuclear energy watchdog raised the incident level from one to three on the international scale that measures the severity of atomic accidents.

This was an acknowledgment that the power station was in its greatest crisis since the reactors melted down after the tsunami in 2011.

But some nuclear experts are concerned that the problem is a good deal worse than either Tepco or the Japanese government are willing to admit.

They are worried about the enormous quantities of water, used to cool the reactor cores, which are now being stored on site.

Some 1,000 tanks have been built to hold the water. But these are believed to be at around 85% of their capacity and every day an extra 400 tonnes of water are being added.

"The quantities of water they are dealing with are absolutely gigantic." -- Mycle Schneider Consultant on Nuclear Issues

said Mycle Schneider, who has consulted widely for a variety of organizations and countries on nuclear issues.

What is the worse is the water leakage everywhere else - not just from the tanks. It is leaking out from the basements, it is leaking out from the cracks all over the place. Nobody can measure that.

Satellite images show how the number of water storage tanks has increased in the past two years. The tanks store contaminated water that has been used to cool the reactors.

"It is much worse than we have been led to believe, much worse," -- Schneider World Nuclear Industry

At news conference, the head of Japan's nuclear regulation authority Shunichi Tanaka appeared to give credence to Mr Schneider's concerns, saying that he feared there would be further leaks.

``We should assume that what has happened once could happen again, and prepare for more. We are in a situation where there is no time to waste, "-- Schneider World Nuclear Industry

The lack of clarity about the water situation and the continued attempts by Tepco to deny that water was leaking into the sea has irritated many researchers.

"It is not over yet by a long shot, Chernobyl was in many ways a one week fire-explosive event, nothing with the potential of this right on the ocean." -- Dr Ken Buesseler senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
"We've been saying since 2011 that the reactor site is still leaking whether that's the buildings and the ground water or these new tank releases. There's no way to really contain all of this radioactive water on site." -- Dr Ken Buesseler senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
"Once it gets into the ground water, like a river flowing to the sea, you can't really stop a ground water flow. You can pump out water, but how many tanks can you keep putting on site?" -- Dr Ken Buesseler senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Several scientists also raised concerns about the vulnerability of the huge amount of stored water on site to another earthquake.

Our environment correspondent Matt McGrath assesses the ongoing efforts to deal with contaminated water at the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. It has been revealed that some of the storage facilities used in the clean-up have been leaking highly radioactive water.

What is going on?

The ongoing problem with water seems to be coming, in the main, from poorly constructed storage tanks.

Tepco, the company that operates Fukushima, is using huge volumes of water every day to cool the reactors that once generated electricity at the plant.

When the water comes in contact with fuel rods at the heart of the reactors, it becomes highly radioactive and has to be stored in large containers on the site where the water is then processed to remove some of the most dangerous elements.

Every day, the company has an extra 400 tonnes of irradiated water to store. This is roughly a 10th of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The water is held in some of the 1,000 water tanks the company has erected on site. But there are problems with these tanks, says Prof Neil Hyatt, from the University of Sheffield, UK.

"To keep up with the rate at which radioactive cooling water is accumulated, Tepco has opted to use containment tanks incorporating plastic seals. Seepage from these joints was the cause of the latest leak of radioactive water." -- Prof Neil Hyatt, from the University of Sheffield, UK

It is believed that about a third of the storage is constructed in this way. Four previous, smaller leaks all came from these type of tanks.

"It is very challenging. They have a real problem with the high level of background radiation, so the small leaks are hard to find."-- Prof Neil Hyatt, from the University of Sheffield, UK

Ground Water Contamination at Fukushima

Water from the storage tanks has seeped into the groundwater and then into the sea. Efforts to use a chemical barrier to prevent sea contamination have not worked.

How dangerous are the levels of radioactivity?

Officials have said that the level of radiation close to this latest leak is extremely high. The water is said to be 8 million times above the safe level for drinking water.

According to Prof Paddy Regan, at the University of Surrey, UK, this leak must be kept in some perspective.

"The numbers reported for dose from these concentrated sources are high - standing there for any more than a few minutes would not be encouraged - but the risks are measurable and the potential doses received should be monitored by workers in the immediate area," he said.

The overall level of radiation that has been emitted by the Fukushima disaster also needs to be kept in perspective. According to Dr Ken Buesseler, senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, US, the release of the radioactive element cesium from Fukushima is between a 10th and a third of what was released from the accident in Chernobyl, and perhaps one fortieth of what was released by nuclear bomb testing globally in the 1950s and 1960s.

"The proposal to raise the incident level from one to three means it's more serious than we thought?"

Raising the threat level to three on the International Nuclear Event Scale (Ines) makes it the most serious nuclear incident since the reactors themselves melted down in the wake of the tsunami in 2011.

fukushima-radiation-wind-trajectories.jpg
It's more serious than we thought

Each step on the seven-step scale represents a tenfold increase in severity. Level 3 means the danger is contained on the site and there is no imminent threat to the public.

" Level 3 can be assigned when there is severe contamination in an area not expected by design, with a low probability of significant public exposure." -- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Prof Andrew Sherry from the University of Manchester, UK, says the measures taken by Tepco are the right ones.

"Though serious, this leak is a long way from the Level 7 incident we were facing in 2011. The approach taken by Tepco to drain the tank, pump leaked water to temporary storage, and protect the drainage of contaminated water to ground water, is entirely sensible," -- Prof Andrew Sherry from the University of Manchester, UK

Is storing water the only problem?

If only. The Fukushima site suffers from its location, where groundwater from the hills surrounding the plant flows down and into the radioactive areas. Tepco wants to channel some of this water, with low levels of radiation, into the sea, but local fishermen are strenuously opposing this.

Given the plant is so close to the sea, Tepco is working on a series of plans to stop more radioactive water getting into the ocean, including erecting steel barriers and injecting chemicals into the earth to create an impermeable layer.

The storage problems are compounded by the ingress of ground water, running down from the surrounding hills. It mixes with radioactive water leaking out of the basements of the reactors and then some of it leaches into the sea, despite the best efforts of Tepco to stem the flow.

Some of the radioactive elements like cesium that are contained in the water can be filtered by the earth. Others are managing to get through and this worries watching experts.

"Our biggest concern right now is if some of the other isotopes such as strontium 90 which tend to be more mobile, get through these sediments in the ground water," -- Dr Buesseler
"They are entering the oceans at levels that then will accumulate in seafood and will cause new health concerns." -- Dr Buesseler

There are also worries about the spent nuclear fuel rods that are being cooled and stored in water pools on site. Mycle Schneider says these contain far more radioactive cesium than was emitted during the explosion at Chernobyl.

"There is absolutely no guarantee that there isn't a crack in the walls of the spent fuel pools. If salt water gets in, the steel bars would be corroded. It would basically explode the walls, and you cannot see that; you can't get close enough to the pools," -- Mycle Schneider

The "worsening situation" at Fukushima has prompted a former Japanese ambassador to Switzerland to call for the withdrawal of Tokyo's Olympic bid.

In a letter to the UN secretary general, Mitsuhei Murata says the official radiation figures published by Tepco cannot be trusted. He says he is extremely worried about the lack of a sense of crisis in Japan and abroad.

This view is shared by Mycle Schneider, who is calling for an international task force for Fukushima.

"The Japanese have a problem asking for help. It is a big mistake; they badly need it." -- Mycle Schneider

Some experts believe the whole clean-up will take more than a century

But given that the plant is in an active earthquake zone, there is a danger that further tremors could spill much of the stored water.

"It is a potential; it is realistic, " -- Prof Neil Hyatt
"I would be saying to the government and to Tepco to make clear that in the event of an emergency, there are plans in place to deal with this." -- Prof Neil Hyatt

Underlying all the water problems is the key issue of what to do with the damaged reactor cores. If these can be dealt with, then the water becomes much less of a problem Tepco had planned to remove some of the 400 tonnes of highly irradiated spent fuel in Reactor No 4 later this year. This won't be easy.

"It is on another scale entirely, a nightmare really," -- Prof Neil Hyatt

Why hasn't the Japanese government stepped in?

In essence, they already have. In May last year, the Japanese government injected $12.5bn (£8bn) in return for more than half the shares in the company. It was part of a 10-year restructuring plan.

According to the trade and industry minister, Yukio Edano, the capital injection was needed to ensure the utility company could continue to supply electricity and pay for compensation and decommissioning costs.

"A big part of the problem is that the response to the Fukushima debacle should be international in scope. Alternatively, the crisis should not be treated as a matter primarily for Japan's domestic politics. This domestication of control over nuclear power plants, when the effects of what happens in them is so obviously transnational in nature, goes back to Albert Einstein's fear that most human beings would not be able to adapt pro actively to the vast transformations that would come from splitting of the atom." -- Anthony Hall

Where will all this end?

In the very short term, Tepco will have to invest in more robust storage tanks, and cope with continuing problem of groundwater. Its ultimate hope is that this water can be treated and cleaned, and then released into the sea.

Tepco will then have to tackle the fuel rods, which a slow and tricky task. The IAEA says it could take 40 years. Some experts believe the whole clean-up will take more than a century.

The mainstream media and the federal government will soon have the blood of the world on it's hands.

Radiation from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant disaster in Japan is now actively in the ecosystem all along the North American west coast… even the sea weed is now radiated.  The Vancouver Sun reported one year ago that the seaweed tested from waters off the coast of British Columbia were 4 times the amount considered safe.  No further test results were released after the initial report.

The governments of the United States and Canada are not conducting tests for radioactivity – at least not to the knowledge of the public.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has agreed to continue purchasing seafood from Japan, despite the fact that the food is not being tested for radioactive contamination.  Last November, independent testing in Japan showed 65 per cent of the catches tested positive for cesium (a radioactive material).  Instead of refusing to purchase the poisoned fish, food safety agencies in both the United States and Canada have simply raised the "acceptable level of radiation."  We can't go offending the Japanese after promising to buy their tainted goods, now can we?

At-Risk Nuclear Sites in America

Do you live near America's Fukushima possibility? Are you prepared? This info graphic from 1BOG.org shows at-risk nuclear facilities in the United States. Most of the ones situated in high-population areas (the larger gray circles) don't coincide with the high seismic risk areas (yellow and red), so that's comforting … but two California stations, San Onofre and Diablo Canyon, and one Washington station sit in areas at risk of earthquakes. (San Onofre also once had its reactor vessel installed backwards. Oops.) On the plus side, all three are a decade newer than Fukushima Daiichi.

After the North American governments refused to fund testing, oceanographer Ken Buesseler, a senior scientist at the non-profit Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, Mass, along with Nicholas Fisher, a marine sciences professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and other concerned scientists, managed to secure private funding for a Pacific research voyage.  The results?

fukushima_radiation_map-.jpg
Radio Active Seawater Map - Fukushima

Cesium levels in the Pacific had initially gone up an astonishing 45 million times above pre-accident levels. The levels then declined rapidly for a while, but after that, they unexpectedly leveled off.

In July, cesium levels stopped declining and remained stuck at 10,000 times above pre-accident levels.

This means the ocean isn't diluting the radiation as expected. If it had been, cesium levels would have kept falling.

The finding suggests that radiation is still being released into the ocean long after the accident in March, 2011.

Radiation in the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima disaster

Less than two weeks after the tsunami and subsequent nuclear disaster, Michael Kane, an investigative journalist, reported,

"In the wake of the continuing nuclear tragedy in Japan, the United States government is still moving quickly to increase the amounts of radiation the population can "safely" absorb by raising the safe zone for exposure to levels designed to protect the government and nuclear industry more than human life."

The radiation has absolutely reached the shores of North America.  Water samples from across the continent have tested positive for unsafe levels of radioactivity.  The levels exceeded federal drinking water thresholds, known as maximum contaminant levels, or MCL, by as much as 181 times."This means that the complete ecosystem of the Pacific Ocean is now poisoned with radiation and we aren't being warned

Samples of milk taken across the United States have shown radiation at levels 2000 percent higher than EPA maximums.  The reason that milk is so significant is that it it representative of the entire food supply.  According to an article published on Natural News;

"Cows consume grass and are exposed to the same elements as food crops and water supplies. In other words, when cows' milk starts testing positive for high levels of radioactive elements, this is indicative of radioactive contamination of the entire food supply."

he  Food and Drug  Administration and the Environmental Deception Protection Agency, instead of refusing to prohibit the sale of tainted foods and mandatory testing of foods produced and harvested from the Pacific Coast, have simply raised the "acceptable levels"  of radioactive material in foods.

Clearly, the "it's-all-for-your-own-good" government will not protect us, or even inform us of the dangers so we can protect ourselves, because it might dip into the pockets of the global elite, the nuclear energy industry, and the food industries.  There is big money behind this cover-up. Refusing to purchase and consume their tainted goods is the best way to fight back, while keeping our families safe and healthy.

How can we protect ourselves?

How can we protect ourselves? First, be aware of what items are likely to be highly tainted.

If you eat the above foods from areas with high radiation levels, you are eating radiation and feeding it to your children. Slowly the radiation levels within your body will build up.

This is PERMANENT !

Infant mortality rates across the United States have increased by more than 35% since the nuclear disaster, according to a court statement by Dr. with independent scientist Leuren Moret, MA, PhD.  A study published in The International Journal of Medicine indicates that more than 20,000 deaths right here in North America can be directly attributed to the release of radioactive material from Fukushima.

Radioactive isotopes of the type released from Fukushima have a half life of 30,000 years.  This means that we must permanently change the way we prepare our food.
